Yesterday I took down all the Christmas decorations. That chore seems to be more of a job with each passing year. My arthritic knees don't go up and down steps like they used to. Carrying boxes and bags of 'stuff' gets harder and harder! I simplified quite a bit this year, and I am thinking next Christmas will be even simpler! I used to laugh at my grandfather who had a small 3 ft tree decorated with plastic ornaments and lights and garland. Every year he would leave all the decorations and lights on and just put a big plastic bag over the whole thing and stick it in a closet. Next Christmas he would take it out of the closet, whip off the bag and declare that "Christmas is here". Now, you know.........his idea seems to make more sense! I remember that holiday decorations were much more simpler in the old days. Perhaps a tree and a wreath on the door or something in the window was about all that folks did back then. Today we tend to decorate the whole house, inside and out! I might just go back to those simpler times as I get older.
Harold spent the day yesterday clearing snow after our big blizzard that dropped another 12 inches of snow on top of the 6 or 8 we already had. The winds drifted the snow into big piles, making for a tough job even with his tractor. The snowplow guy came twice to clear snow on our road. The drifts were so deep he couldn't get it all on the first pass.
Here are some photos of Harold working on our yard and driveway. This job was too big for a little snowblower!
Harold's tractor/loader does a fine job of moving snow. Of course our ever-curious cats were happy to have something to chase and watch! |
He got the vehicles dug out and cleared a space for turning around. Note that a couple more cats were inspecting Harold's work! |
Harold also cleared a pathway from the parking area to the door. The canvas over the tractor engine makes it run better in cold weather, and also keeps Harold's legs a little warmer. |
I am beginning my 8th year of blogging about life here on Honey B Farm. So far I haven't run out of ideas, although some articles are similar. There is a real cycle of life here on our farm, so often I write about the same thing, but hopefully in a new way with new photos! I have many readers from all over the world - and I say to everyone: A very happy new year and may God bless you all greatly!

Oh isn't that cute. Maybe it does pique the interest more when one changes the page? Anyway, cute. What can I say. I can say your snow piles don't look as high as mine. I was going to take pix this morning of my tractor next to a couple snow piles, but forgot to take the camera and I was too lazy to go back to the house. As I come out of the house to plow more snow, it was flurrying! EEK! Been off and on. The forecast predicted flurries. Thankfully not 8 or 10 inches worth. I still have more to clear so may get another chance.
Stay warm and look forward to the new year with enthusiasm and vigor? You're gonna need the vigor AND stamina as well.
Hi Patty, I enjoy your blog so much. I have tried your recipes and made the Elf Bites again this Christmas. I just wish I could make bread like yours. Mo place seems to be warm enough to raise the dough in this house. I still have lots of trimming to put away. The front porch will be last. Hope you and Harold have a very prosperous, healthy
2020. Hope to see you sometime .I have a gift with your name on it under the tree.
I love the look of your new blog. This might be my favorite one yet because it represents your garden so well. I thought I'd pop on here and see what's new. I know you guys have been "snowed" in over there. We haven't seen hardly any snow this year at all, doesn't really seem like winter except for the temps. Can't believe it's been 8 years with your blog. Wow. What dedication. I really enjoy it when I do pop on now and then. Oh, andI wish I would've seen the Elf Bites recipe before I got my boss a gift this year. I really struggled, and that would've been so easy. Next year for sure. Happy blogging!
Love, Becky
